Hyper Rush - VFX Concepts

Some VFX concept work from my time on the unreleased project, Hyper Rush.


The first brief was to create some Finish Line VFX concepts that players could see from anywhere on the track, be it far away or in a close race to first place. These would be a cosmetic item players could pick to customise their aesthetic, similar to how players can pick the goal explosion in Rocket League, allowing for personalisation within the game.


The second brief was to create a visual indicator for if a player is has had an impact, via a collision with the course or a player, or by a player's attack/ability. A glitchy effect was determined to suit the game's universe best, as it was a hologram filled track the players would race on, and would have enough contrast to stand out against the colourful environment.


These was pretty cool to work on, and only got better as they were passed onto VFX artists Naomi Ruys and Andrew Mendlik to then make a reality.
